Wellness Exams

Exams for pets at any life stage

Proactive, preventative care is key to keeping your pet healthy. Routine wellness exams help address preventable issues like obesity, ear infections, and dental disease, while screening for conditions like arthritis, diabetes, and kidney disease early on. Pets who receive regular preventative care tend to stay healthier and recover faster when illness occurs.

Recommended Wellness and Preventive Care:

  • Adult Pet Wellness Exams: Annual comprehensive exams check your pet’s eyes, ears, nose, mouth, lungs, skin, joints, and more. Since pets often hide signs of illness or pain, these exams are crucial.
  • Puppy and Kitten Wellness Exams: Young pets need frequent checkups to ensure proper vaccinations. Our veterinarians and technicians help guide pet parents in providing the best care.
  • Vaccinations: Keeping your pet’s vaccines up to date helps prevent serious diseases like rabies, distemper, feline panleukopenia, and more.
  • Dental Care: Annual dental cleanings under anesthesia, including radiographs, cleaning, and treatment, are essential for your pet’s overall health. Regular professional dental work will improve your pet’s well-being.
  • Parasite Control: Protect your pet and family from fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal parasites, many of which can be transmitted to humans. Many of these parasites are zoonotic, meaning they can be transmitted to people. Our veterinarians can help you determine which parasite prevention is right for your pet.
  • Skin and Coat Care: Regular grooming and managing allergies help prevent infections and other issues.
  • Nutrition: Proper nutrition supports your pet’s immune system and overall health.
  • Behavioral Evaluations: Mood or behavior changes often signal underlying health issues.
  • Senior and Geriatric Animals: For pets over seven, we recommend exams with bloodwork every six months, as they age faster and need closer monitoring.

How often does my pet need an exam?

Because pets age faster than humans, regular preventive care is essential. Depending on the breed and size of the pet, the average pet will age about five to seven years for every human year. That means that the health of a 7-year-old terrier is equivalent to that of a 35-year old human. We recommend at least one exam per year for adult pets and twice a year for pets over eight years old.
